Positions and times are computed from the astronomical ephemeris, to the minute; void of course runs from the Moon’s last major aspect to the Sun or a planet out to Pluto. New and full moon calendar →
The Moon is the fastest thing in the astrological sky, changing sign about every two and a half days. This page works out where it is right now from an astronomical ephemeris: its sign and degree, its phase, the exact time it moves into the next sign, when it is void of course, and the Moon’s sign for each of the next seven days. It is recalculated every few minutes.
Which house of your chart is today’s Moon in?
The same Moon falls in a different place in everyone’s chart. Enter your birth details to see which area of your life it is passing through these couple of days, then take the result to the AI.
Why the Moon changes sign so often
The Moon circles Earth in about 27.3 days, covering 12 to 15 degrees of the zodiac a day, so it spends roughly two and a half days in each sign. The Sun takes a month per sign. With the Moon, the answer to “what sign is it in today” changes every couple of days, and on many days the Moon starts in one sign and ends in the next, which is why the exact ingress time matters.
Positions and times here come from the same ephemeris code as our birth charts: the Moon’s apparent geocentric longitude in the tropical zodiac, checked against the Swiss Ephemeris. Sign changes are narrowed down to the second and shown to the minute.
The phase is a separate cycle. It depends on the angle between the Moon and the Sun: together at the new moon, opposite at the full moon. In one month the Moon passes through all twelve signs and through one round of phases, but the two cycles drift apart, so each month’s full moon lands in a different sign.
How astrologers read the Moon’s sign for the day
In astrology the Moon stands for moods, the body’s rhythms, comfort and the small routines of care. The sign it is passing through is often read as the emotional weather everyone shares for a couple of days: restless and quick in the fire signs, steady and practical in the earth signs, talkative in the air signs, more feeling and inward in the water signs.
Treat it as a vocabulary for noticing the day rather than a forecast. Two people on the same Moon-in-Cancer day can have very different days; one misses home, the other just wants a good dinner. What it offers is a prompt to notice what moves you today and what wears your patience thin.
The short note beside today’s sign is written in that spirit. It describes a common mood, not a verdict about you, and your own experience of the day counts for more than any description of it.
The void-of-course Moon, and how this page times it
The Moon is void of course from its last exact major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. We use the most widely published definition: the major aspects are the conjunction, sextile, square, trine and opposition, the other bodies are the Sun and the planets from Mercury to Pluto, and the aspect counts at the moment it is exact.
A void spell can last a few minutes or more than a day. By tradition, things begun while the Moon is void tend not to come to much, so some people avoid signing, launching or setting intentions then, and use the time to finish things, tidy up and rest. It is a convention among astrologers, not a warning that something will go wrong.
Published void-of-course times sometimes disagree by hours. Usually the method is the reason: some tables stop at Saturn and leave out Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, others also count aspects that only become exact after the Moon has changed sign. This page states its method so you can compare.
Times, time zones and the weekly table
A sign change happens at the same instant everywhere; only the clock time differs. The page is first drawn in UTC, then switches to your device’s time zone once it loads and says which zone it is using. You can switch back to UTC at any time.
Each row of the seven-day table is a calendar day in that zone. It gives the Moon’s sign at midnight, then any sign change during the day with its time. The void column lists the void-of-course stretches that overlap the day, so one that crosses midnight shows on both days.
If another source gives a sign change a minute or two apart from ours, the difference is rounding or ephemeris version; whole hours apart means a different time zone.
Today’s Moon and your own chart
Today’s Moon sign is not your Moon sign. Yours is where the Moon was when you were born and never changes; you can find it with the Moon sign calculator, even without a birth time. Today’s Moon is where it is in the sky now, the same for everyone.
Astrologers call the planets’ current positions transits. The transiting Moon moves through all twelve houses of your chart in about a month, two or three days in each, and the house it is crossing is often read as the part of life your attention drifts to: home when it crosses your 4th house, work and responsibilities when it crosses your 10th. The calculator above finds the house for you.
When the Moon comes back to the place it held at your birth, a lunar return, some people find they feel most like themselves. It happens every 27 days or so; keep an eye on it for a few months and see what pattern you notice.

FAQ
What sign is the Moon in today?
As of Sat, Oct 17 16:14 (UTC), when this page was computed, the Moon is at 13°27′ Capricorn, about 41% lit, and enters Aquarius on Mon, Oct 19 01:39. It changes sign about every two and a half days; the top of the page always shows the latest position.
How often does the Moon change signs?
About every two and a half days on average. The Moon goes around the zodiac in about 27.3 days and its speed varies, so a stay in one sign runs from under two days to nearly three. Many days include a sign change; the page gives the exact time.
Is today’s Moon sign the same as my Moon sign?
No. Your Moon sign is the Moon’s position at your birth, fixed for life and read as where your emotional needs and sense of safety come from. Today’s Moon sign is the Moon’s position now, shared by everyone and read as the mood of the day. Our Moon sign calculator finds yours.
What should I avoid when the Moon is void of course?
Nothing is forbidden. The tradition is to avoid starting important things, such as signing contracts, launching or setting new moon intentions, and to use the time for finishing, sorting and resting instead. It doesn’t predict anything bad; ordinary life goes on as usual.
Why do Moon sign and void-of-course times differ between websites?
A minute or two comes from rounding and ephemeris versions, whole hours from time zones. Bigger differences in void-of-course times come from the method: some sources stop at Saturn, some count aspects that become exact after the sign change. This page uses the Sun through Pluto, the five major aspects and the exact moment of each.
Is the Moon’s phase the same thing as its sign?
No. The sign is the Moon’s place in the zodiac and changes every two and a half days; the phase is its angle from the Sun, about two weeks from new to full and 29.5 days for a full round, which is why each full moon falls in a different sign. Exact new and full moon times are in our moon phase calendar.
